5 Ways to Stay COVID-19 safe this Christmas
As new variants emerge and we dread the thought of further lockdowns we should be taking extra precautions to prevent the spread of infection.
As leaders in hygiene excellence, we want to share with you our 5 expert tips in staying safe this Christmas whilst still enjoying time spent with friends and family.
Hygiene must come first
1. Regularly clean and disinfect surfaces and commonly missed touch points
If you're hosting Christmas at home this year, you should ensure to regularly clean and then disinfect surfaces as well as high touch point areas when entertaining guests in your home.
Despite the obvious areas such as table tops and kitchen surfaces, some other commonly missed touch points to ensure are cleaned regularly include:
- The fridge
- Door handles
- Chairs
- Light switches
- Remote controls
2. Pay attention to dwell times
When cleaning areas ensure to leave enough time for the disinfectant to work its magic and eradicate germs.
This can vary from virus to virus, for example, when eradicating COVID-19 particles you should leave our Pathisol Disinfectant to dwell for at least 2 minutes. For other viruses and their specified dwell times you can visit here
3. Avoid sharing cutlery or glasses with those outside your household
Why don’t you allocate a certain style of cutlery and glasses to your guests to ensure you don’t mix these up with your own? This way you’ll know which could potentially be contaminated and how to be extra careful when washing them.
4. Keep your home well ventilated
This is probably not what you want to hear in the depth of winter and in minus degree temperatures, but this tip is one of the most effective ways for COVID-19 particles to disperse.
If possible, maintain openings throughout the day to allow a constant flow of fresh air into the home. See government guidelines here
5. Avoid mixing with the vulnerable and test regularly
After a disappointing Christmas last year, you probably want nothing more than to spend time with your loved ones, this may include the elderly or those in high-risk categories. Although a difficult decision to make and often a difficult conversation, your safety and protection of others must come first. The new variant Omicron is highly transmissible (up to four times more than the other variants) so it is wise to choose your guests and numbers wisely.
We recommend that you make a kind request for your guests to do a lateral flow test before entering your home. These can be ordered for free here.
Lastly, enjoy the festive period but please listen carefully to government guidelines to keep you and your families safe.
